A questa storia catartica e rivelatrice, negli anni, l'autrice ha voluto aggiungere tre brevi racconti che ne riprendono i personaggi e l'ambientazione e che proponiamo fedelmente nella presente edizione. Mai is thirteen years old and doesn't want to go to school anymore. Her mother, worried, decides to send her to stay with her grandmother for a while, in a beautiful little house in the Japanese countryside on the edge of the mountains. His grandmother is a widowed English lady, who arrived in Japan many years earlier and stayed there for love. Both Mai and her mother refer to her as the "Witch of the West", but when her grandmother reveals that she actually possesses magical powers, Mai is incredulous and distrustful. However, when he offers her to face the hard training of a witch, he accepts without hesitation. Immersed in the pristine nature of the most remote Japan, grandmother and granddaughter spend wonderful weeks together in meditation, away from the hustle and bustle of city life, working in the garden, picking wild herbs and cooking, as well as, of course, dedicating themselves to what are, according to their grandmother, the basic rudiments for a young witch. To this cathartic and revealing story, over the years, the author has wanted to add three short stories that take up the characters and the setting and that we faithfully propose in this edition.
